Artist Bio

My name is Timothy Sanders and I paint under the name Timotheus.  I am a convert to the Roman Catholic faith and my current trend in painting is Sacred Art.   My studio is located in a quaint little 18th century town in South-Central Pennsylvania near Historic Gettysburg. I am generally a self-taught artist.  I paint portraits and landscapes, along with historic landscapes in a folk art style. I also restore Catholic statuary. My desire to paint Sacred Art started not long after my fiance, now my lovely wife, introduced me to the traditional Latin Mass in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The strong spiritual atmosphere, the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass and the true presence of Christ before you can do nothing less than inspire an artist to paint an image depicting what he has just experienced. I have been painting for nearly 25 years.  I had instruction under a local artist in oil painting specifically portraits. I completed one painting under his guidence and went off on my own.  In the local area I am know as a "True Renaissance Man". Art is not my only interest.  I have the ability to play the violin on a moderate level and with an interest in the violin and woodworking, I carved and constructed three violins, not kits mind you.  As I mentioned woodworking, I used mostly traditional 18th century tools which I think wore out my shoulder.  I am a brickmaker by trade and have a degree in Historic Preservation.  I have restored our 18th century log home  which was honored in 2004 by Historic Gettysburg-Adams County with a Historic Preservation Award. I love heirloom gardening and most of my landscape plantings are also heirloom or of some historic native variety.  I also enjoy winemaking and operate a small private winery I call "The Berwick Village Winery".  I have planted a small  vinyard recently to grow my own grapes. And yes, it doesn't end there.  I spend most of my time (I know, what spare time)  with my beautiful wife and Saturday black and white classic movie night is my favorite time of the week, right behind Sunday Mass.  I could go on and on but I will stop there. I leave you with an old Latin quote I print on my wine bottle labels, "Amor Vincit Omnia, Love Conquers All"!

Pax,

Timotheus
